Michigan State football will face Boston College shorthanded in Chestnut Hill on Saturday night. Will the Spartans win?
Hearing the news that both Nick Marsh and Jaron Glover are likely to miss Saturday night’s Michigan State football game and Chestnut Hill knocked the optimism level in the fanbase down a couple of pegs.
Now the Spartans head into Week 4 awfully shorthanded, down three receivers (Marsh, Glover, Alante Brown) as well as a few defensive backs (Khalil Majeed, Dillon Tatum, Chance Rucker) and some linemen (Gavin Broscious, Kristian Phillips).
Jonathan Smith will have his team prepared regardless. It’s clear that his team is well-coached although the discipline could use a little work as penalties have been out of control. We’ll see if the Spartans can cut down the penalties, a couple of receivers can step up, the offensive line pave the way for the run game, and the defense will step up to stop Thomas Castellanos.
Here are the final score predictions from the Spartan Shadows staff.
Connor Muldowney: Not having the two top targets for Aidan Chiles is going to hurt majorly, but the Spartans will put up a good enough fight to have a chance to win late. Jack Velling will have his first true breakout game but it will not be quite enough as the Eagles get the last laugh. Boston College wins 28-24.
Liam O’Malley: 24-21 Sparty
Zack Theis: 28-24 Boston College
Chris Norman: I think MSU on the road, in primetime, with that environment is too much. Let alone having to potentially miss a big wide receiver and replacing another right guard. Boston College wins 31-28.
Emmett Matasovsky: MSU faces a huge challenge, and their previous struggles with mobile quarterbacks don’t inspire confidence. The Spartans keep it close, but cannot quite pull off the upset. Boston College wins 28-21.
Owen Schuchaskie: 27-21 Sparty
Chris Davis: Offensive line issues catch up to us. Michigan State loses 27-17.
Maxwell Klitzke: 31-27 Michigan State
Anthony Garvert: 27-20 Boston College
@MilkManMSU: 27-24 Michigan State
Joey Shaver: 21-14 Boston College
A mixed bag this week but it seems as if some of our writers are still confident without two of the top targets playing. Let’s hope they’re right.
