Michigan State football will be in Boston this weekend for a huge showdown with the Eagles of Boston College. Let’s get bold.

Week 4 is officially upon us as Michigan State football sits at 3-0 heading into a critical road game with Boston College.

The Eagles are 2-1 on the season but were ranked a week ago before losing a tight game at Missouri. It’s clear that Bill O’Brien and the Eagles are better than anyone had anticipated and that means Jonathan Smith and Co. need to be on their ‘A’ game.

It’s not going to be easy, but let’s see if my bold predictions will make you feel any better about Saturday night.

Not to be the guy who brags, but I’m five for my last six bold predictions over the last two games. I was a perfect 3-for-3 against Maryland and 2-for-3 against Prairie View A&M. So let’s make it another 3-for-3 week against Boston College, shall we?

1. Aidan Chiles out-duels Thomas Castellanos

Since that ugly season opener where he completed just 10-of-24 passes for 114 yards and two picks, Aidan Chiles has been much, much better. He has completed about 63 percent of his passes over the past two games with 536 yards and four touchdowns with two picks. He still needs to cut down on his interceptions but he’s going to do that on Saturday night.

Thomas Castellanos has been solid this season for Boston College, passing for 589 yards and nine touchdowns to just two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown. He has been a breakout star.

But Chiles is going to steal the headlines in Chestnut Hill, passing for 250 yards, rushing for 50 more, and accounting for four total touchdowns. He’ll out-duel Castellanos on his own turf.

2. Jack Velling breakout game

Just six catches through three games is not what Michigan State fans had in mind for Jack Velling. But the junior tight end is finally going to break out against Boston College, especially with two receivers potentially sidelined for the game (Nick Marsh, Jaron Glover).

Velling is going to need to step up to help his quarterback out and he’s going to catch five passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. It’ll be his first true breakout game as a Spartan and it could help launch him into a big season.

3. Michigan State has a chance to win on final drive

Boston College heads into this game as a 6.5-point favorite and experts all have the Eagles beating Michigan State football. You’ll probably see the experts on College GameDay all pick Boston College to win because the Eagles have looked that good.

But the Spartans will keep things close here.

Michigan State will have the ball down four points late in the fourth quarter with a chance to win, but some miscues will cost the Spartans a big road win as they lose 28-24. I’d love to be wrong and see Chiles lead a game-winning drive in the final minutes to come out on top, 31-28.
