Michigan State football locks in visit with No. 1 available transfer OT

Although Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football got some unfortunate transfer portal news on Wednesday thanks to the sudden flip of Idaho tight end Mason Mini to Cal, the now-second-year head coach is showing some resiliency.

Michigan State may have lost Mini on Wednesday, but the Spartans are working to land one of the top players in the portal.

In fact, the top available transfer portal offensive tackle has officially scheduled a visit to Michigan State for Jan. 10, according to Justin Thind of 247Sports. He’ll be on campus this weekend after it was reported that he was interested in a visit earlier on Wednesday.

Conner Moore, an FCS All-American at Montana State, is on the market after a big season and has been drawing major interest. The Painesville, Ohio, native has shown interest in moving back closer to home to play FBS ball and Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Michigan State are a few options.

Moore had already scheduled a visit to Cincinnati and was in the works with Michigan State and Ohio State per a report early on Wednesday from 247Sports’ Chris Hummer, but Thind is reporting he has locked in a date. This is a big development for Jonathan Smith and Co. because just getting him on campus gives the Spartans a chance. Beating out Ohio State and Cincinnati for a local prospect won’t be easy, but a connection has been established.

Not only is Moore a four-star transfer and FCS All-American from Montana State, but he’s also the No. 1 available offensive tackle in the portal as of Jan. 8 and he’s the No. 2 offensive lineman and No. 5 overall available player.

Michigan State has some work to do this offseason if it wants to piece together a competitor in 2025, but landing a guy like Moore to help out that offensive line would be a monumental step in the right direction.
