Michigan State football is one of two finalists to land four-star running back Anthony Carrie from Tampa, Fla.
Could Michigan State football soon be landing its running back of the future?
The Spartans have been connected to Anthony Carrie since 2022. For most of his recruitment, South Carolina appeared to have the edge for the four-star running back. It seems the Gamecocks have fallen out of the race.
Recently Carrie spoke to North Carolina reporters and said his list has been narrowed to two. The Tar Heels and Michigan State, according to SpartansRivals on Twitter.
For those that keep up with crystal ball predictions, Michigan State is currently listed at 66 percent to land Carrie. He has already been to East Lansing and had this to say about his visit in an interview with Spartan Mag:
“I have visited Michigan State twice and it feels like family there. It is somewhere I could see myself going. They had Kenneth Walker III, so they showed what they can do with great backs. It feels like home and family.”
The Spartans’ 2024 class has been slow developing but has recently started to gain momentum. With two defensive additions this past week, fans would certainly welcome some offensive firepower.
Carrie has a total offer sheet that includes 42 schools. Namely, Michigan State, North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The Spartans can credit running backs coach Effrem Reed for still being in the running for Carrie. He’s been consistently recruiting Carrie from the start.
Carrie also has experience in track. He’s logged an 11.43, 11.44 (3.1), and 11.55 (1.8) in the 100-meter dash as a junior. He possesses the speed and skill necessary to be a dual threat running back for the Spartans.
Below you can see the full six-plus minute highlight reel that shows why the Spartans have been so intentional in their pursuit of Carrie:
It’s likely Carrie will be making his announcement soon. By now we know college recruiting is extremely fluid. Spartan fans have to be encouraged by where the team stands with Carrie but there’s still another final step to be taken. Stay tuned.
