Michigan State football players have taken to social media to talk fans off the ledge following some big transfers.

Panic was the theme of Michigan State football Twitter on Sunday afternoon, stretching into the evening as Keon Coleman, Payton Thorne, and Charles Brantley all hit the transfer portal.

We saw plenty of hot takes from fans such as “Michigan State football is dead” to “fire Mel Tucker” and everything in between. It was an ugly day to be a casual observer of Twitter, but that’s the norm during the offseason when there’s not constant good news rolling in.

Fans clearly didn’t take the news well, and meltdowns are expected. But the players were also shocked by some of the news and still talked fans off the ledge all day on Sunday.

Some players took to Twitter to calm fans down after the recent string of transfers.

Clearly the players aren’t going to hit that panic button, and neither should we. Transfers happen and only one of them should have a major effect on the team next season. The loss of Coleman is going to hurt, but other guys are going to have to step up, including two players who had the “relax” message for fans above. Tyrell Henry and Tre Mosley are on the same page and believe that the show will go on.

You love to see that kind of mentality from guys who will have major roles next season like Mosley, Henry, Spencer Brown, Aaron Brule, Noah Kim, Maliq Carr, and (fingers crossed) Darius Snow.

This is what leaders look like.

Although it may not be sunshine and roses right now, there are brighter days ahead and these guys believe that this team will be just fine.

Losing Coleman is definitely a gut-punch because he looked like he was about to be a potential first-rounder next year, but there are dudes on this team who can step up. I’m by no means a sunshine blower, but the team isn’t going to change a ton next year, especially if the young guys live up to their potential.

Listen to the players and relax, folks.
