Michigan State football could be targeting one of the best receivers in the transfer portal in Silas Bolden.
Michigan State football has been targeting a lot of transfers this season, and rightfully so with the amount of players we’ve seen transfer out. To likely nobody’s surprise, we’ve also been targeting a lot of Oregon State transfers. Jonathan Smith had a great team last season, so it’s no surprise he wants to bring a lot of his former players with him.
Silas Bolden is the next Beaver to enter the portal and sounds like Michigan State is interested.
Silas Bolden career stats
Bolden has spent three seasons in college, all with Oregon State. He has had an excellent career so far, especially this past season. This past season, he caught 54 passes for 746 yards, and five touchdowns. Over his three seasons, Silas has a total of 80 catches for 1,076 yards and nine touchdowns.
He was a solid recruit coming out of high school. In his high school class, he was a three-star prospect and the No. 85 wide receiver, per 247Sports. However, with the success he’s found the last two seasons, I think he would be ranked much higher now.
Is MSU the frontrunner?
Whenever a former Oregon State player enters the transfer portal you have to think MSU has a good chance to win their recruitment. Especially if Jonathan Smith goes all out with his staff, it would be shocking to not win their recruitment.
Bolden has only been in the portal for one day so there is no clear leader in his recruitment yet. Michigan State 247Sports insider Justin Thind backed this up by saying, “They (MSU) might end up landing him, but there aren’t any favorites this early and he’s gonna take his visits.”
The Oregon State wideout has received offers from a few west coast schools already including Utah, USC, and Arizona. Michigan State has not offered yet, but I’m guessing that will change soon.
Based on what Justin shared, this recruitment will take some time. I imagine he will take at least 2-3 visits before making his final decision. But if MSU offers Bolden and pushes hard for him, I would be surprised if he doesn’t follow Jonathan Smith and Aidan Chiles to East Lansing.
