Aidan Chiles has been committed to Michigan State football for a little over a week now but USC is making a push.
A new rumor is starting to circulate regarding Michigan State football star transfer Aidan Chiles. He was the No. 1 QB in the transfer portal according to 247Sports. As you all know, he committed to Jonathan Smith and Michigan State on Dec. 14.
Aidan is an elite quarterback who had an excellent freshman season at Oregon State. He completed 24-of-35 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Chiles also ran the ball for 79 yards and three more scores as well. He accumulated all these stats as the Beavers’ backup quarterback, which to me is even more impressive.
However, news was released regarding his recruitment that could make some Spartan fans nervous.
USC is targeting Aidan Chiles
The USC Trojans have shown some interest in Aidan and have reached out attempting to recruit him. This is days after their star freshman quarterback Malachi Nelson entered the transfer portal leaving USC. So the Trojans need to find someone to replace Nelson, and Chiles might be their first choice.
It is no surprise to hear that other schools might still be trying to recruit him. The recruiting process works a little differently for transfers compared to high school recruits. As a high school recruit, they will sign with their school on signing day and that ends their recruitment. However, as a transfer, you are not “off the market” until you enroll in classes at your new school. So even though Aidan has been committed to Michigan State football, his recruitment isn’t officially over.
Should we be worried?
Honestly, I don’t think there is anything for Spartan fans to worry about. At this point, this is only USC showing interest in Chiles. Nothing has come out regarding any interest from Aidan and he has not scheduled a visit yet either. Those are two things we likely would hear about before he would ever decommit from Michigan State.
We also have to remember that Aidan already chose to follow Smith to East Lansing. He originally could’ve chosen any school in the country to commit to, we all know he had other options. But he chose to follow his former Oregon State coach to keep playing for him at MSU.
Aidan also took to social media after this news dropped to share this message:
I think it’s safe to say he’s locked in as a Spartan.
