Keon Coleman and Jayden Reed had their former quarterback’s back after hearing reports of NFL scouts’ criticism of Payton Thorne.
There’s been plenty of drama surrounding Michigan State football over the past 24 hours.
The Spartans lost Keon Coleman, Payton Thorne, and Charles Brantley much to the surprise of several players and the entire fanbase. Following these announcements, there were plenty of emotional tweets that relayed the shock among the players and the fanbase.
Everyone was trying to figure out what happened and how Coleman could have been swayed to enter the portal despite being the best offensive player on the team with a role of WR1 staring him in the face.
Justin Thind of 247Sports appeared on the Spiro Avenue podcast to speak about what he’s heard regarding the departure and what other teams might be telling Coleman in order to land him.
Thind stated that he had heard from sources that quarterback play was a driving factor in Coleman leaving and that was even mentioned in an article about Jayden Reed from NFL scouts. Inconsistent quarterback play was mentioned as a reason Reed’s stock wasn’t even higher.
Well, both of those receivers responded to that report to clear the air.
Note: Both of their tweets have been deleted.
Coleman responded with “not true” with a laughing emoji and a thumbs down while Reed quote tweeted it with “y’all just be talkin, stop it.”
Let me be clear here: Thind is not the one who created this narrative. He is just reporting what he had heard from sources. He’s just the messenger.
But it makes you wonder what the reason for Coleman’s sudden departure truly was. It never seemed like he was on the same page with Thorne as the veteran quarterback missed him on a number of occasions, but he’s going to bat for his now-former teammate.
It seems like Thorne might not have been the problem.
