Sometimes it’s time to move on and Hamp Fay made that decision with Michigan State football on Tuesday afternoon.
As announced today, Michigan State football tight end Hamp Fay has officially entered the transfer portal and will seek opportunities elsewhere.
While Hamp didn’t become a household name on the field, his work ethic, determination, and willingness to do whatever it takes for the team shined bright during his time in East Lansing. Hamp took to twitter today to announce the decision thanking Spartan Nation. He stated that “there’s a time for everything” and he feels it’s time for him to move on from MSU.
Fay committed at the start of the pandemic in April 2020. The tree-star recruit out of Fort Worth, Texas, was ranked as the No. 77 quarterback in the class of 2021. He redshirted as a freshman. After that, he suffered an injury. Due to that injury, plus dealing with a crowded quarterback room, Hamp made the decision to switch positions to help the team. He spent time at safety before ultimately switching to tight end where he had played a bit in high school. His willingness to move positions embodies his drive to help the team succeed.
While going through these hardships, Hamp never hung his head. He didn’t take to social media to complain. He just kept working. All that while continuing to be an excellent student. Michigan State football recently honored him at their Athletics Academic Gala, which took place last week. That signifies Hamp finished with at least a 3.0 GPA this year.
Overall, Hamp is the type you often hear coaches like Mel Tucker and Tom Izzo look for in their athletes. Someone who is willing to come in and do what’s best for the team and give every effort they can towards that goal. At the end of the day, not every situation always works out for both parties.
Hopefully Hamp can find a landing spot that fits him better and will allow him to further his athletic and academic careers the best. Thanks for everything, Hamp. We appreciate you.
