Connor Stalions was allegedly on the sidelines of the Central Michigan vs. Michigan State football game earlier this fall.
This is a site focused on Michigan State football along with all Spartan athletics, so we have not talked much about the ongoing sign-stealing scandal happening at the school down the road. Overnight, a new development broke that forces me to acknowledge and write about this.
For those living under a rock, Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh are under investigation for sign-stealing allegations that date back to 2021. It is alleged that assistant coach Connor Stalions led a sign-stealing operation that involved sending individuals to upcoming opponent’s games to record their sideline signals in order to decipher their plays.
There had been rumblings that Stalions, a graduate from the Naval Academy, attended the Michigan State football season opener in person against Central Michigan. Last night, photos were posted of a CMU ‘staffer’ eerily resembling Stalions on the CMU sideline at the game.
There are a few interesting thoughts here:
- MSU’s opener was a Friday night game and this staffer was wearing sunglasses.
- The staffer has very similar facial hair and features to that of Stalions.
- Lastly, the CMU ‘staffer’ in question appears to hide his face from the camera when a play ends right in front of him. Video below.
Just when you thought the sign-stealing probe couldn’t get any more hysterical, it appears Stalions may have attended MSU’s season opener disguised as an opposing team’s staffer potentially with the goal of stealing MSU’s signals.
Here’s what’s weird:
- Sunglasses to a night game? Not crazy but certainly unusual. I’ll give the individual in question the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he wanted to block out the stadium lighting.
- The facial features – the only thing that doesn’t match up is the hair. Stalions tends to keep a buzz cut while the ‘staffer’ in question appears to have some hair under his hat. Maybe a wig? Maybe Stalions missed a couple of buzzcut sessions?
- Hiding from the camera; it’s pretty clear the ‘staffer’ did not want his face on camera. He looks down and pulls his hat over his face.
- ‘But UrbzMan, how does he know the camera is on him?’
- The play ended within 10 feet of him. The camera is going to follow the ball until the play is over.
- The game was on a Friday. Michigan played the following Saturday which opens a window for Stalions to potentially attend the game.
Right now, everything is speculation. It is just as likely that this is a doppelganger as it is Stalions himself. If it proves to be true that Stalions attended the game in person, this could be bad news for Michigan and would call into question the validity of the Wolverines’ game results from 2021 to the present. This could cause some wins versus rival Michigan State to be vacated.
I’m sure more will come out soon.
Love,
UrbzMan
