Michigan State football: Bye week Hopalytics preview

It’s the bye week which means that we don’t have to worry about Michigan State football for seven more days.

Hey guys, has anything happened in the last couple of days since our beloved Michigan State football team took a loss on the road at Iowa who played a backup offensive lineman at quarterback? The common theme in the last few weeks is the Spartans have had a better success rate than their opponents but have still lost. What does that mean? It means MSU played better than the other team but they just so happened to not take home the win.

The bye week came at a great time for this team, though.

It’s the perfect get-right week to make sure everyone is on the same page and this season doesn’t start to get really bad real fast. Three straight losses hurt. Knowing you should have won two of those if it weren’t for poor coaching and untimely turnovers hurts more.

1. QB change
   1. Word on the street says redshirt freshman quarterback Katin Houser will get the start against Rutgers on Oct. 14. Houser’s little Twitter cult has finally willed their favorite player into the starting role. I was a Noah Kim believer in the beginning. I thought it was impossible that the staff would trot the worst quarterback out there but Kim’s time is up. Five starts is enough for us to know what we’re going to get. Houser season is upon us.
2. Urban Meyer

   3. Urban is the big splash MSU needs to make with their next head coach. In the quickly changing landscape of college football, this is MSU’s last shot to stay at the top end of the new Big Ten.
3. Mel Tucker
   1. The results of the hearing came out on Thursday. This story has been repeated so many times that I’m not going to say it again here. My only comment on this is that Tucker ‘simped’ a little too hard for a woman who allegedly wanted a piece of that $95 million check.
4. HopCat
   1. Shameless plug to my favorite restaurant. I’ll probably be dining in the world’s finest establishment since there is no Spartan football this weekend.
