Michigan State football: Former 5-star OL target back on the market

A former five-star Michigan State football target along the offensive line is looking for a new home yet again.

For the second time this offseason, a former five-star Michigan State football target is back on the market, looking for a new home.

Who is this former target? Kiyaunta Goodwin. The former five-star offensive lineman from Ohio is back in the transfer portal after picking Florida earlier this offseason. He started his career at Kentucky before transferring after his freshman year.

According to reports, the former five-star is looking to transfer somewhere close to home because of a medical issue within his family.

Does this mean that Michigan State will show interest in the offensive lineman from Indiana? It’s tough to say, but it seemed like Mel Tucker and Co. passed up on an opportunity to recruit him in the spring when he entered the portal. The Spartans just missed out on Goodwin to Kentucky out of high school, finishing second in the race, so it wouldn’t be totally shocking to see some interesting on both sides here. But since he needs to move closer to home, he might pick a school in Indiana.

Anywhere in the Midwest would be a better local option obviously than Florida, however.

Michigan State has an offensive line that might just be a strength this upcoming season. The Spartans have plenty of experience and it feels like Chris Kapilovic is finally getting his guys into place. Would Goodwin ruin that chemistry? Probably not, but it’s something he may not want to risk with a new face.

Goodwin would undoubtedly add extreme depth to the offensive line room. But I think the ship may have sailed for him coming to East Lansing despite him being one of the most polarizing recruits in recent memory.

Of course, no fans would say no to this. The coaching staff may say otherwise. Maybe we’ll see him in the Big Ten?
