Michigan State football made the top eight for one of the top linebacker recruits in the Midwest, Dante McClellan.
The 2024 recruiting class is now officially over, so that means Michigan State football and Jonathan Smith will now turn their full attention to the 2025 class. It is still very early in this classes recruitments, but it also isn’t unrealistic to start seeing kids commit. That’s why it’s important to recruit hard right now, because you never know when a kid might commit early.
On Tuesday, the Spartans received some good news as a recruit they are hard after just released their top eight schools and MSU made the cut.
Who is Dante McClellan?
Dante McClellan is a four-star linebacker from Canton, Ohio. This is always the Midwest state with the most talented recruits, and McClellan is just another example of that. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 273 player in the class and the No. 31 player at his position. He is also the No. 11 player in Ohio which is impressive considering all the talent that comes from the state.
Dante recently took a visit to Michigan State as he was part of Jonathan Smith’s first Junior Day at MSU. His visit must have gone well considering MSU is now in his top eight.
Recruiting competition
Louisville, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Rutgers make up McClellan’s top eight along with Michigan State.
No predictions have been made in his recruitment yet, but I think the Spartans have to like their chances. According to the post shared above, a decision from Dante could be soon. The Spartans are also his most recent visit as well, so Dante announcing his top eight then announcing potentially soon could be a great sign for Michigan State football.
Kentucky is another school to keep an eye on. They are the only school listed as “warm” on his 247Sports profile. That sometimes doesn’t mean anything, but it can be a good indicator as well.
McClellan would be a huge addition to the Spartan’s 2025 class. Smith didn’t have much time to recruit the 2024 class, so building some momentum early is critical for this class. Dante could be just that guy the propels MSU to putting together a very solid recruiting class.
