With the season still a few months away, it’s fair to speculate which Michigan State football position group is the most slept-on.
It’s the end of May, so it’s natural for everyone to speculate what will unfold for Michigan State football this season. There has been so much talk about quarterbacks, recruiting, and the transfer portal and I think people are expecting the Spartans will take another step back from an already low bar set at 5-7.
Here’s why Chop thinks you should expect otherwise:
Remember last year when MSU football hardly had enough bodies to field an offensive line? From the outside looking in, it’s a different story this year. On top of becoming healthy, MSU made some key additions including JUCO transfer Keyshawn Blackstock, Stanton Ramil, and Cole Dellinger. The offensive line is easily the most slept on position group heading into the fall.
I really do think fans are underestimating how much a good offensive line means to an offense. The way I like to think about it is the offensive line is the tortilla and the skill positions are the meat/cheese/salsa. If you’re building a taco without the shell, the whole thing is going to fall apart. Same can be said about a burger. No buns and all you have is a gluten free monstrosity.
In other words, you cannot make a juice box without the box. You just have a juice puddle. Coach Kap’s Juice Squad has some extra muscle behind it this year.
A poor offensive line is the starting domino that ruins both the running and passing games. Michigan State couldn’t run to save their lives last year and I think that is mostly contributed to poor offensive line play. I’m expecting gaping holes for Nate Carter, Jaren Mangham, and Jalen Berger to run through.
OK, that is enough seriousness for me today. Magic gummies are down the hatch and I’m ready to cause a stir on Twitter.
