Lost in the shuffle of the Aidan Chiles commitment, Michigan State football also added Brandon Tullis to their 2024 class yesterday.
On Thursday night, Michigan State football added another player to the 2024 class. Running back Brandon Tullis, a former Oregon State commit, completed the flip to Michigan State. He was a player than Jonathan Smith and running backs coach Keith Bhonapha wanted to bring with to East Lansing, and they got their guy.
Brandon Tullis has next level vision
Tullis currently ranks No. 1,489 in the country and he’s the No. 110 running back in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite. Despite being on the lower end of rankings, he held offers from the previously mentioned Beavers, Kansas, Cal, and Boston College. There were multiple Power Five schools who saw and coveted the talented Tullis’ skill set.
As I mentioned in my previous article covering Tullis’s decommitment (alongside another 2024 target), the running back primarily brings his vision to the table. When watching his highlights, Tullis plants his foot in the ground and cuts back to cause the second level to over pursue. He reads his blocks, lets the play develop, and explodes through the hole. A running back with good vision for the Spartans? Where have we heard that before?
That said, if he gets into a one-on-one, Tullis is just as willing to bowl a player over to add extra yardage. Combine that with a good set of hands (44 catches for nearly 500 yards between his four seasons) and his timed track speed, and Tullis brings a lot to the table for the Spartans.
New running back coach Keith Bhonapha wanted to bring both Tullis and the prior Dec. 12 commit Makhi Frazier from Oregon State, and he landed them both. With Anthony Carrie looking more and more unlikely as Texas A&M pulls out the SEC (money) recruiting, these two come into the backfield with a year or two behind Nate Carter and Jalen Berger. That said, both Texas backs have an element of power to their game, and they could slot in as the power back when Berger needs a rest.
Tullis joins Frazier, tight end Wyatt Hook, and No. 1 transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles as players and prospects that Jonathan Smith has brought with from Oregon State.
After ranking outside the top-100 following multiple decommits among the Mel Tucker ousting, the Spartan class now ranks No. 67 in the country with one last weekend push to land prospects. The Spartans host 15 combined prospects and players this weekend, so be on the watch for this ranking to rise.
