No. 1 transfer QB Aidan Chiles commits to Michigan State

Former Oregon State transfer and No. 1 portal quarterback Aidan Chiles has officially committed to Michigan State.

Ladies and gentlemen, we got him. Aidan Chiles has committed to Michigan State.

The former four-star top-60 quarterback at Oregon State was in the transfer portal for what seemed like a matter of seconds before reports from recruiting analysts at 247Sports reported their expectation for Chiles to land with Michigan State.

It seemed like only a matter of time for Chiles to enter the transfer portal after Jonathan Smith left Corvallis to be head coach at Michigan State. That time has come and we have our quarterback for the future.

Aidan Chiles is the most talented quarterback to grace East Lansing in some time. He possesses elusiveness in the pocket, exceptional arm talent, and natural leadership. The combination of talent and intangibles is rare and something Spartan fans should be looking forward to seeing next fall.

The freshman finished his career at Oregon State with decent stats for a backup, albeit the sample size is small:

Passing

• Completions: 24-for-35 (68.%)
• Yards: 309
• Yards per attempt: 8.8
• Touchdowns: 4
• Interceptions: 0

Rushing

• Attempts: 17
• Yards: 79
• Average: 4.6
• Touchdowns: 3

Even in limited playing time, Chiles saw ample opportunity against great opponents such as College Football Playoff bound, Washington. In all, Chiles played in nine games and showed off his talent in spurts against good competition.

The best part about having Chiles now is he already knows the offensive system. Smith brought offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren with him so should expect to see the same system in East Lansing. That’s huge for two reasons.

One, especially after Noah Kim, Katin Houser, Same Leavitt all entered the transfer portal, leaving the Spartans with no quarterbacks on the roster with playing experience. And two, Chiles has playing experience in a (former) Power Five conference commanding this offense, no other quarterback MSU would have gotten from the transfer portal this season would fit the need for this team more than Chiles. He knows the coaches and the system.

Smith and his staff are putting in an impressive amount of work building this team already. Now he has his quarterback of the future, again.
