Michigan State football fans have been searching for some optimism for months and Tyneil Hopper provided it with one quote.
Since that loss to Indiana back in November, it felt like the life was sucked right out of the Michigan State football program. There was very little excitement anymore and it just felt like the uphill climb that Mel Tucker and Co. would have to make this offseason would be un-doable.
Tucker has been smacked with bad news left and right this offseason, but he’s at least done a solid job of bringing in talent that can help turn things around right away.
He’s landed a number of transfers that can have an immediate impact like Nathan Carter, Tunmise Adeleye, Ademola Faleye, and Tyneil Hopper. The crop of transfers may not be highly-touted like they have been in the past couple of years, but Tucker landed some guys who fit the system.
One of those guys is Hopper.
The former Boise State tight end has been earning rave reviews all spring and he got to talk to the media earlier this week and had some interesting quotes.
The quote that caught my eye was “I feel like our team is gonna be unbelievable.”
Talk about bringing hope back.
Hopper is considered the veteran of the tight end group and a guy who pays attention to the little details and is a strong blocker. He’s going to help this group have a resurgence this season, in my opinion, and if he feels that Michigan State is going to be “unbelievable” then why shouldn’t we?
The spring game takes place on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing and it’s our first chance to get a taste of the new-look Spartans. While it won’t be a legit scrimmage, we’ll still get a chance to see the quarterbacks duke it out and some skill players flash their star power — looking at you, Keon Coleman and Nathan Carter.
It’s a chance to get fans to buy in again after the nightmare that was 2023.
Will fans be buying into Hopper’s quote after this weekend? Let’s hope so, but I do have a feeling this year’s team will surprise some people.
