The Breslin Center, home of Michigan State basketball, will play host to an NBA preseason game between the Suns and Pistons.

Exciting news was released today via the Detroit Pistons PR team as well as Mat Ishbia and the Phoenix Suns. The press release states the Suns and Pistons will play their preseason game at the Breslin Center on Oct. 8 of this year. Tipoff is currently set for 7 p.m. EST with the Pistons serving as the home squad.

The Pistons have previously held games in East Lansing, but this will be the Suns first time coming to Michigan State.

The Pistons are owned by Michigan State alum Tom Gores. The Suns, as most MSU fans know, are now owned by Spartan alum, former walk-on, and notable donor, Mat Ishbia. He was a walk-on for Tom Izzo’s Spartans and was part of the national championship team in 2000.

Being able to bring his new NBA team to campus to play is a special moment for Ishbia. In his statement today, he said: “From being a walk-on at Michigan State on the national championship team, to now being able to bring the Phoenix Suns to play at the Breslin Center — this is a full circle moment and an incredibly special experience.” He went on to say that “MSU and Coach Izzo have had an immeasurable impact on my life and career.”

He also stated that “I wouldn’t be where I am today” without them.

Tom Gores also stated that “Michigan State University is a special place and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring our team and the excitement of the NBA to sports fans in East Lansing.”

Izzo also was ecstatic with the news. He stated that “having an NBA game on campus featuring two Spartan alums as owners shows the power of MSU and the talent and quality of the people that come from our great university.”

Some major NBA talent will be coming to the Breslin for that game. While we are unsure who could suit up being a preseason game, both teams have no shortage of starpower. The Suns currently have a roster featuring superstar guards Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. Also all-world player Kevin Durant will be there. The Pistons feature up-and-coming superstar Cade Cunningham and former All-Star Tobias Harris. Jaden Ivey is also no stranger to the Breslin Center, having spent his college career at Purdue.

Tickets for the event will go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. ET. They will be on sale for $15 and you can purchase them at the Spartan Ticket Office or online at msuspartans.com.
