Former Duke star says Michigan State basketball is a blue blood

Is Michigan State basketball a blue blood or not? That’s the debate that seems to rage on every single year and the consensus opinion is that there is no consensus opinion.

Michigan fans immediately shoot down the blue blood talk while Michigan State fans are usually supported most by national media members and former players. The Spartans are considered to be a basketball blue blood by a good chunk of the college hoops community, but don’t tell that to the fans in Ann Arbor.

Either way, it’s one of those debates that may never be settled until Tom Izzo wins No. 2.

But the good guys got another endorsement as a blue blood on Wednesday afternoon from an unlikely source: a former Duke player.

Valley Suns player Cassius Stanley, Duke grad, referenced the connections across the NBA that he has thanks to Duke. Another school he mentioned w/ connections is Michigan State, citing Suns owner Mat Ishbia. He also gave a nod to MSU, referring to them as a blue blood.

Valley Suns player, and former Duke star, Cassius Stanley was speaking to the media on Wednesday when the topic of Michigan State came up, citing the Suns’ owner, he stated that the Spartans are a blue blood. You really love to hear that from someone who actually played for a blue blood.

Stanley was a one-and-done at Duke back in 2019-20 where he averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft by the Pacers. He’s been fighting for a roster spot in the league since, but he was once considered one of Duke’s top NBA prospects during that 2019-20 season. His Blue Devils even faced Michigan State that season on Draymond Green jersey retirement night and came away with a 12-point win. So he’s seen the Spartans firsthand.

While one former Duke player’s opinion doesn’t truly mean much in the grand scheme of things when it comes to the blue blood talk, it’s always good to hear it from an unbiased source.

Michigan State basketball is a blue blood and this is just another tally in the win column for that debate.
