Hunter Dickinson wasn’t too thrilled with Jordan Hall trolling Michigan after losing to Michigan State on Saturday night.
Rivalry banter between Michigan and Michigan State will never get old. Sometimes it gets a little too toxic on social media, but both sides have figured out a way to handle it well and not let it boil over into something more than just fun jabs. Freshman linebacker Jordan Hall made sure to join in on the playful banter on Saturday night after Michigan State beat the Wolverines 73-63.
This was the Spartans’ second win over Michigan on the year and the first season sweep since 2019.
And as everyone already knows, Juwan Howard is squarely on the hot seat. His team fell to 8-18 overall and 3-12 in Big Ten play with the loss. To say he’s likely going to be looking for a new job next year would be putting it nicely.
So when Hall playfully shared a meme of Howard working at McDonald’s, some Michigan fans didn’t take too kindly to it. While it wasn’t over the line as other fans trash talk like this all the time, some believed that Hall should be the last one to talk since his team lost 49-0 to Michigan during football season. Hunter Dickinson especially took exception to the jab made at his former coach’s expense and called Hall out on Twitter.
Obviously Hall was just having a little fun as it’s fair game for him to root for other MSU teams outside of football but Dickinson hit him with a “stay in your lane” kind of comment. And I don’t necessarily agree with it.
Sure, Michigan State football has been down and it got blown out by Michigan this past season but Hall can be a fan like the rest of us when his team isn’t currently playing. Is he not supposed to root on his friends and talk trash when they beat their biggest rival? It’s what we all do. It’s what makes being a fan of this rivalry fun. Surely Dickinson remained quiet during the 2022 football season when Michigan beat Mel Tucker for the first time despite losing his previous meeting with Michigan State by 17 points, right? Surely there’s no hypocrisy there.
Policing rivalry trash talk is just lame. If you root for the winning side, you should have free reign to talk trash without having to worry about a different sport.
Plus, Dickinson left Michigan because the program was heading in the wrong direction so he should probably sit this one out and worry about beating Kansas State.
