Jeremy Fears played role of hero after being shot in the leg

After being shot in the leg, Jeremy Fears Jr. acted quickly to help someone else who was also shot before worrying about himself.

An actual nightmare scenario unfolded late on Friday night as Jeremy Fears Jr. was back home in Joliet, Ill., for Christmas break. The freshman point guard for the Spartans was at a friend’s house with a group of people, hanging out and celebrating the holiday weekend, finally getting some time off from a grueling first collegiate season when someone walked into the house and started firing shots, hitting Fears and another girl.

The bullet that hit Fears struck him in the leg which, thankfully, was non-life-threatening. The other victim was hit in the stomach.

Without a second thought, knowing that he was struck in the leg and likely going to be OK, Fears tended to the girl who was bleeding from her stomach and immediately started caring for her and assuring her everything would be just fine, according to his father.

That’s a hero and a natural-born leader. That’s something that you cannot teach people. Fears is just wired to be a leader and even when he knew that he was injured by a stray bullet, he was able to help someone else out who was in a more dire position.

An 18-year-old kid who had never been in this situation before decided to assist others before worrying about himself. That’s just an incredible story and I’m shocked that it’s not talked about more. Instead, you see idiots on Twitter (thankfully they’re in the minority) asking why Fears was out so late and not safely at home. Fears played the role of hero when faced with a terrifying situation and helped save a girl’s life. That’s what everyone needs to be focusing on.
