Former Michigan State star Keon Coleman may have played at Florida State this year, but he thanked the Spartans in his goodbye letter.
I’m sure you all remember the transfer portal saga that was Keon Coleman a year ago. After a solid season with Michigan State in 2022, he made the shocking decision to enter the transfer portal leaving MSU behind. Then, after a long recruiting process, and some hope from MSU fans, he ended up transferring to Florida State where he played this past season.
Keon had a fantastic year with the Seminoles and has now declared for the NFL draft. In his announcement, he gave a special shoutout to Michigan State and its fans.
Keon Coleman gives love to MSU
In the above post, Keon had this to share about MSU:
“To my Michigan State Family, you’re forever in my heart for helping build the foundation that I stood on throughout my college career. While I finished up a seminole, I’m forever a Spartan Dawg. We are Family!!!”
Keon’s decision to leave MSU last year left a lot of Spartan fans pretty upset. But ever since that decision, he has given nothing but love back to us and his former teammates. Keon had a few tweets throughout the season supporting our football team, and even made a couple playful jabs at Michigan. But including us in his draft announcement eliminates an ill will I may have still had for Keon.
This isn’t something you see very often. It is normal to thank the school you’re currently playing for in an announcement like this, but what’s uncommon is mentioning your previous school you left. That tells me that Keon enjoyed his time in East Lansing and has no regrets coming here in the first place. And when you think about it, how could someone with Keon’s accomplishments not still love MSU. He is after all the only player to score against Michigan in both football and basketball.
Keon Coleman’s career
Keon spent his first two collegiate seasons in East Lansing. It was his sophomore season however that saw him break out onto the college football scene. In 2022, Keon caught 58 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns as a Spartan.
As we all know, he then transferred to Florida State where he had an even better season. This year, he caught 50 passes for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also helped Florida State finish with a 13-0 record and an ACC title. The Seminoles were unfortunately left out of the College Football Playoff, ending their magical season.
I hope Spartan fans are able to put what happened a year ago behind them and support Keon. He has proven many times that he still loves MSU, and I think we should give him that love back. And if we’re being honest, based on how our season went I think he made the right decision for himself.
