Michigan State basketball: A letter to Tyson Walker from ChopMan
Tyson Walker, if you’re listening…
If Tyson Walker does decide to return to Michigan State basketball, I’ll go ahead and declare it a national holiday.
After the dust has settled on the 2022-23 season in a Sweet 16 exit, I know many Michigan State basketball fans are wondering what’s next. We’re all cautiously optimistic about football, but from a basketball perspective, a couple of things are still up in the air. Joey Hauser is assumed to leave, but we eagerly await the decisions from Malik Hall and Tyson Walker on their potential returns to the program.
If you follow me on Twitter, you already know I made the joke that I would selflessly walk every single day until Tyson Walker chooses to return to the Spartans for the 2023-24 season. As heroic as that would be, there is an endless amount of things I would do to have TWalk back:
- Donate all my Kodiak Cake NIL money (it’s a lot)
- Never drink a beer again (I’m sober)
- Graciously WALK my dog every day (I already do that)
In all seriousness though, I kind of feel like Walker’s story at Michigan State was just beginning. He transferred from Northeastern in 2021-22 and this past season emerged as a stone-cold killer. Buying Tom Izzo pizza and telling opposing players/fans to ‘shut the (expletive) up’ led to Walker’s dominance and popularity.
In my selfish opinion, Walker has one more chapter left in his MSU story. With the chemistry he has with fellow guard AJ Hoggard mixed with the elite recruiting class coming in, Michigan State basketball has the chance to be one of the best teams in the country and it isn’t done without Tyson Walker leading the charge.
I won’t speak for every Spartan out there, however, I know we would declare a national holiday when he returns.
Proofreading this I realize two things: One, this is definitely not formatted like a letter directed at Walker and, two, I came across as a little more serious than usual. Sorry, but this is what you’re gonna get and you’re gonna like it. I’ll go back to my coffee (Good Vim Coffee) and pancakes (Kodiak Cakes).
Love you so so much,
ChopMan
