Just last week, everyone was ready to throw in the towel on Michigan State basketball recruiting for the 2025 class. The Spartans had zero commitments and Tom Izzo had missed on Trent Sisley, Darius Adams, Jalen Haralson, and Trey McKenney.

But then he landed four-star small forward Jordan Scott and everyone backed off a bit.

Then, on Sunday, five-star Dwayne Aristode committed to Arizona and the doubters of Izzo’s recruiting got louder again. But they could soon be silenced thanks to a looming commitment.

According to Adam Finkelstein, four-star power forward Cam Ward will be committing on Oct. 22. And Michigan State is the presumed favorite.

Landing Ward over Maryland and Virginia which would be the local schools for him would be massive, especially considering the Spartans just secured a commitment from Scott who was also at the top of the Terrapins’ wish list.

Ward is ranked the No. 50 overall recruit in the class and he’s also the 14th-best power forward, per the 247Sports Composite.

Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 210 pounds, Ward wouldn’t be the biggest option at power forward, but he’s incredibly skilled and he can still grow into that frame and put more muscle on. Plus, Michigan State has thrived with “smaller” forwards before with the most recent being Malik Hall — he was just 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds.

According to Finkelstein’s scouting report on 247Sports, Ward has a 6-foot-11 wingspan and plays an inside-out style that should fit in nicely at the college level. He doesn’t have a consistent 3-point shot yet, but that’s something he could add to his game.

Michigan State basketball has had a post problem for a few years now and adding a guy who is skilled at scoring in the paint and can finish strong at the rim and who can rebound at a high level would be a sight for sore eyes.

All the crystal balls on 247Sports favor the Spartans here.
