Michigan State basketball reaches out to nation’s No. 2 recruit

Cooper Flagg would look good in green and white.

Michigan State basketball has reached out to a number of elite 2025 prospects but none bigger than Cooper Flagg.

The direct contact period for the 2025 class began earlier this week and Tom Izzo got to work right away. The legendary Michigan State basketball coach reached out to a handful of elite prospects.

Izzo reportedly reached out to Darius Acuff, Jalen Haralson, Trey McKenney, and Koa Peat.

But one name stood out above all the rest and kind of took everyone by surprise: Cooper Flagg.

Yes, according to 24/7 High School Hoops, Michigan State was one of the early teams to reach out to the five-star power forward and No. 2 overall recruit in the 2025 class. Many believe he’s the most talented recruit in the country and that he may not even play college ball.

As you can see, the list of teams that have reached out to Flagg is elite, highlighted by the likes of Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, UConn, Arizona, and Auburn. All of the big-time programs have been reaching out to Flagg, and for good reason. He plays with an edge and is an incredible athlete at the power forward position. There’s no doubt about it, he’s a future pro.

But seeing that Izzo reached out was surprising because the Spartans hadn’t been connected to him prior to this revelation. In fact, Michigan State has yet to offer.

Maybe that changes soon as Izzo gauges the interest and maybe gets him to campus. Or maybe it never happens as Flagg may have his mind made up on where he wants to play before the NBA. Only time will tell.

Either way, it’s great to see that Izzo is not counting himself out of recruitments like this one. Flagg is one of the best recruits in the entire country, regardless of class, and he could be the best player in college basketball as a freshman.
