Top-150 junior Gregory Lawson (Detroit) will be visiting Michigan State basketball this weekend for the Ohio State game.

Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball have been hard at work recruiting the 2025 class recently. They’ve been out to visit many recruits in person, but they haven’t had very many visitors make a trip to East Lansing recently.

That, however, will change this weekend as a highly ranked in-state recruit will be in town.

Three-star point guard Gregory Lawson

Gregory Lawson is a three-star point guard from Detroit, Mich. He is one of the top prospects in the state of Michigan, currently No. 2 according to 247Sports. It also has Lawson as the No. 125 player in the class and No. 22 point guard as well.

Lawson is also right on the cusp of earning the coveted fourth star as well. He currently has an 89/100 rating which is the highest rating possible for a three-star. The lowest four-star is also No. 111 in the country, so Lawson isn’t too far off right now.

Recruiting competition

Lawson has received many offers from big schools including Florida State, Arkansas, Xavier, Penn State, and Louisville. He doesn’t have an offer from Michigan State, but that could change.

This will be Lawson’s second visit to Michigan State, as he also visited East Lansing last year on Sept. 16. Izzo wouldn’t just have any recruit come to campus multiple times if he wasn’t interested, so that’s why I think a scholarship offer could come this weekend.

There are no predictions in his recruitment yet and there also is no timeline for a decision date from Lawson. But he has also taken recent visits to Notre Dame and Xavier as well, so those schools could be at the top of his list right now.

I’m very curious to see if MSU will offer Lawson this weekend or not. That will tell us just how interested Izzo is in pursuing him. If a scholarship offer comes, that will tell us he is a priority for Izzo. However, if MSU doesn’t offer him that will make two straight visits to East Lansing without receiving an offer, meaning Izzo hasn’t made him a priority and is just keeping him on the radar.

Stay tuned as I’m sure a lot of info will be released about his trip after this weekend.
