Michigan State decathlete Heath Baldwin will be the first Spartan to head to the Olympics in the event since 2004.

For the first time since 2004, Michigan State will send a decathlete to the Olympics. That decathlete is Heath Baldwin as he secured his spot in Paris last night by finishing first with a personal best of 8,625 points.

The trial took two separate days for Baldwin as it included 10 different events. Some of these events include javelin throw, pole vault, high jump, and a 1,500-meter race to wrap up the long two-day competition.

This was always the goal for Baldwin. He decided to opt out of the 2024 outdoors championships to prepare for trials. He knew he had to come ready and not only did he win it, but his performance put him at sixth in the world. Not only was it sixth in the world, but it was also third all-time for a collegiate athlete in the decathlon. While he’s one of the best college decathletes ever to go to the trials, he is also going to be ranked right up there with some of the best decathletes in the world.

Baldwin got to compete and win the biggest meet of his life at one of the coolest stadiums in Eugene, Ore. Not only did he get to compete there, he got to wear the green and white as well. He got the chance to represent Michigan State and now he will be representing Team USA in the Olympics.

He will be competing in the Olympics from Aug. 1-11 as that is when track and field takes place. Good luck at the Olympics, Heath.
