Aidan Chiles is entering his first season with Michigan State football and expectations for him are high. Are they Heisman high?
Aidan Chiles is yet to step foot in Spartan Stadium and still hasn’t officially won the starting job for Michigan State football this fall, but that hasn’t stopped the hype from building around the talented, young quarterback. Many national analysts are praising Chiles for what he could be at Michigan State, thanks in large part to what he has already done in his career.
Chiles was a backup as a freshman at Oregon State. He didn’t play a lot as a freshman, but he did enough for the college football world to take notice. So much so that Chiles was included on the Heisman Trophy betting odds that were just released.
Aidan Chiles’ Heisman Trophy odds
Aidan has +15000 odds to win the Heisman Trophy this upcoming season. This is tied for 29th among all quarterbacks and puts Chiles in the 11th tier for winning the prestigious award.
Now I’m not suggesting that we start Chiles’ Heisman campaign just yet, as even these odds suggest that it is very unlikely. But these odds backup all the hype surrounding Chiles right now. It’s pretty remarkable for a second-year quarterback to be this high on the Heisman odds considering he hasn’t even been a full-time starter yet.
When looking at his one season at Oregon State, these Hesiman odds do make a lot of sense. Out of high school, Aidan was a four-star recruit and a top-60 player in his class. As a freshman, he appeared in nine games, completing 24-of-35 passes for 309 yards. He also threw for four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Chiles was also deadly on the ground, running the ball 17 times for 79 yards and three more touchdowns.
These stats alone show that the hype is more than real heading into this season. Maybe he won’t compete for the Heisman Trophy, but being including this high on the list is a huge accomplishment. And you never know, maybe Chiles will have a magical season. Kenneth Walker III came out of nowhere and had a realistic Heisman campaign, so maybe Chiles is ready to burst onto the scene in a similar way.
