Michigan State football added punter Carson Voss from the transfer portal and he’s finally living out a childhood dream of his.

Everyone has a childhood dream. Some people get to experience and live out that childhood dream when a lot of people don’t. Carson Voss is going to be one of those who will after he committed to Michigan State football.

For a lot of athletes, their dream is to play college football and then play professionally. The majority of athletes won’t get the opportunity to play professionally but Voss is one of the select few that got the opportunity to play college athletics at the D1 level.

For the last few years, he was the starting punter at Western Michigan but after this past season, he decided to enter the transfer portal.

In the portal, there is a lot of uncertainty but Voss got the chance he was looking for since he was a young kid. He got the chance to visit Michigan State late in the transfer portal window. He took a visit and got the chance to meet and talk to the new coaching staff.

When asked about the coaches by fellow Spartan Shadows writer Brendon Pricco, Voss said, “The staff has been great. I got to sit down with Coach Smith and get acquainted with them and just talk about what his vision was for the program and also got to sit down with both special team coordinators for a good while and they were great as well. Everyone seemed very focused on developing the individual more than just the player, they were the realest coaches I’ve met.”

The coaching staff really left an impact on Voss and is a reason for his commitment as a preferred walk-on. There is also the childhood dream part of wanting to play at Michigan State.

Ever since Carson was young, he would go to Michigan State games and even basketball camps. He has been a Spartan fan for life and now he is getting to be one of those athletes.

When asked about living his childhood dream, he said, “It feels incredible. When my family and I got the chance to visit this past weekend, we parked at Spartan Stadium and I remember getting out of the truck and just looking at the stadium, realizing for the first time that I wasn’t here to watch a game or tailgate, I was there to get an opportunity to play there.”

He further talked about how “it was a pretty surreal realization.” He ended his by saying, “It’s a blessing to be put in the position of someone you used to look up to as some type of hero, so it definitely means a lot.”

This is the type of Michigan State football player who fans should have no problem cheering for. Voss is getting the opportunity to live out a dream in which a lot of people don’t get the opportunity. He has wanted to play at Michigan State since he was a kid and he could use his last two years of eligibility to achieve that.

Voss is joining a room with Ryan Eckley and will be competing for the starting spot, as it seems like Smith is making everyone start with a clean slate.
