Michigan State football: Elite 4-star CB puts Spartans in his top 10

Michigan State football just made the top 10 list for one of the top cornerbacks in the 2025 class this week.

Michigan State football is once again receiving some good news on the recruiting trail. They may have just lost a transfer wide receiver, but the Spartans received good news regarding a 2025 recruit as they’ve made the top 10 for one of the best corners in the country.

Four-star cornerback Shamari Earls has put the Spartans in his top 10. Earls, who’s from Chester, Va., is one of the best corners in the country. According to On3, he is the No. 62 player in the country and the No. 8 cornerback. Not only is he a great talent on the football field, but he’s also an elite track and field athlete.

Earls was a state qualifier in both the 100 and 200-meter dash, showing he is an elite all-around athlete. You can’t teach speed, and his speed is one of the many reasons Earls is ranked so highly.

Recruiting competition

Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, Texas A&M, Duke, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Maryland join the Spartans in Earls’ top 10. You might have a couple of guesses about who the leader in his recruitment is based on this list, but you’d probably be wrong like I was.

Earls has one crystal ball prediction on 247Sports to South Carolina. This prediction is very new as well, coming in on March 15. So this is a very telling sign that South Carolina is at the top of his list.

Duke and Virginia are two other teams to keep an eye on as they are “warm” along with the Gamecocks according to 247Sports.

Jonathan Smith has been a very solid recruiter so far, so as long as MSU is in a player’s top schools list, I’ll have a little confidence. The next step is to get Earls to East Lansing on an official visit. If they can do that, maybe the Spartans will have a shot to win this recruitment.
