Michigan State football will be getting a visit from in-state four-star edge rusher Xavier Newsom next month.
Michigan State football is continuing to put in work on the recruiting trail this offseason. Not only are they handing out a lot more offers recently, but they are also starting to set up more visits, too.
This time, it’s an extremely talented four-star defensive end from the state of Michigan.
Four-star defensive end Xavier Newsom
Xavier Newsom is a four-star defensive end from Detroit. He is 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds and the No. 170 player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports. They also rank Newsom as the No. 19 player at his position and the second-best player in the state of Michigan. He will be an extremely important visitor for Jonathan Smith and the staff on Feb. 3.
As you would probably guess, Newsom holds a lot of offers already for being such a talented player. He also holds offers from Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Tennessee, and Minnesota. There doesn’t seem to be a leader in his recruitment yet as there are no crystal ball predictions made for Newsom.
According to 247Sports, however, he does not have any other visits currently scheduled right now. You do have to take that with a grain of salt because sometimes visits aren’t 100 percent updated or announced yet, but MSU must be in a decent position if we are getting this early of a visit from him.
Feb. 3 is shaping up to be a big weekend
Feb. 3 will be MSU’s first Junior Day since Smith took over the program. Newsom is the second Detroit native to announce a visit to MSU for this day. Four-star athlete Elijah Dotson is also visiting this same day. Newsom and Dotson play for different schools, but there is a good chance they know each other. Coming on a visit at the same time could be huge and may lead to both increasing their interest in MSU.
I imagine we will hear many more visits announced for Feb. 3 in the coming weeks. One interesting note is that Michigan State basketball plays a home game against Maryland on this day. Most of the time big recruiting weekends in the winter tend to happen when there’s a home basketball game. This is always a great idea as it can show the recruits what kind of fanbase the Spartans have while they have a lot of fun at a sporting event.
Stay tuned as this weekend likely will become packed with visitors.
