Michigan State football hosting Oregon State TE transfer Jack Velling

Michigan State football has another big name on campus this weekend. His name is Jack Velling and he’s a major priority.

This weekend is a massive one for new Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith and his staff. This is the first weekend that Smith can host recruits and transfers and there are a few big names on campus already.

For fans, the biggest name might be Aidan Chiles but it was announced that tight end Jack Velling will be taking an official visit this weekend as well. His visit is one of the biggest visits this weekend and that is because of how efficient and dependable he was this year, especially in the red zone.

This year, Jack is tied for the most touchdowns on the team with eight while increasing his total number of receptions and yards from the prior year.

In Smith’s offense, the tight end is an important part and under Brian Wozniak, Jack has grown and improved every year. Under Jay Johnson, they always said that tight end was important but fans did not see that play out. This will not be the case under Smith and Wozniak. During Wozniak’s time at Oregon State, he developed tight ends that have made it to the NFL and some of the best at the position in college as well. Velling seems like he could be taking that step and if he was to commit to Michigan State, the tight end room might be one of the deepest positions on the team.

Fans are going to pay attention to Chiles this weekend, and they should, but Jack Velling is almost as important to land. If Michigan State was able to land both from this weekend, that would be about as good of a start as Spartan fans could ask for.

Velling is going to be an impact player wherever he goes and hopefully, for fans, he will be playing at Michigan State next year.
