Incoming Michigan State football linebacker transfer Jordan Turner will be hosting a youth football camp in June.

Culture is an important thing for any college football program. And Jonathan Smith has done a great job of accruing high-character individuals to fill out his first roster as Michigan State football coach.

While there were already plenty of great off-the-field personalities on the team, Smith has brought in guys like Aidan Chiles and Jordan Turner who are proving to be true leaders.

Chiles was great this spring and talked to the media about how he was getting to know all of his teammates on a personal level.

Turner didn’t grab as many headlines because, well, he wasn’t the No. 1 quarterback in the transfer portal, but he’ll be important to the defensive side of the ball as a potential starting linebacker next to Jordan Hall.

The Wisconsin transfer has “leader” written all over him and he continued to prove that on Saturday with the announcement of his annual youth football camp at Farmington (Mich.) High School.

Turner also partnered with IHop to pay for the fee for the first 100 campers. This is a really cool gesture, giving back to the community that he grew up in by teaching young athletes the sport that he loves.

You have to remember that a lot of these athletes don’t have to do community work like this, but it’s the leaders who really step up and either lead a camp or help as counselors. I’m sure Turner will have some help from fellow Spartans on June 1 during this camp and it’s cool to see that he’s doing this for the second year in a row.

Turner isn’t the only Spartan linebacker to host an annual youth camp as Jordan Hall has also done so. Last year was Hall’s second annual free youth football camp back in his hometown.

It’s great to see high-character players throughout this roster.
