Michigan State football: Katin Houser reportedly starting vs. Rutgers

According to reports, Michigan State football is likely to go with Katin Houser next weekend against Rutgers after the bye.

Following another uninspiring performance in Week 5, Michigan State football looks like it’ll be rolling with a new quarterback after the bye.

Per multiple reports, Katin Houser is expected to be the starting quarterback against Rutgers next week, replacing Noah Kim who started the first five games of the season to a 2-3 record. He looked solid in the first two weeks and then struggled against the likes of Washington, Maryland, and Iowa.

I have spoken with my source closest to the situation and he said that there is some validity to these rumors. As of right now, it looks like Houser will be the starting quarterback for Michigan State when it takes the field in Week 7 at Rutgers.

Honestly, this is a move that isn’t a huge surprise but it should make fans thrilled to tune in after the bye.

While Houser did have a pick against Maryland in Week 4, he engineered two long drives against the Terrapins and Washington the week prior, but he wasn’t put into the game until late in the fourth quarter in each of those games. It took far too long to give him an opportunity. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares as the starter and if he can be that spark that the offense truly needs.

Kim did his best but it felt like the coaching staff lost trust in him during the Iowa game as they were afraid to throw the ball while up 16-10 in the second half. There were multiple opportunities to extend the lead, but they didn’t trust their quarterback.

Hopefully that changes moving forward.

Houser should get his first start against the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway next weekend and a solid showing will have fans buying back in on the future of the program.
