The sky might feel like it’s falling after losing a top running back commit to Alabama, missing a bowl game after being punked by Rutgers on Senior Day, losing defensive backs coach and ace recruiter Demetrice Martin to UCLA, and then losing the commitment of three-star cornerback LaRue Zamorano, but a small tidbit of good news did grace Michigan State football on Monday.
Three-star linebacker commit Charles White from Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s who has been committed since April has been bumped up to four-star status on 247Sports.
Is this news going to talk any Michigan State fan off the ledge? Probably not, but it does ease the pain ever so slightly. It’s like having a massive migraine and then taking a Tylenol. You know it’s not going to get rid of the migraine or make everything better, but it’ll ease the pain slightly.
White getting bumped up to four-star status does show that this staff is doing a decent job with evaluation. The same could be said about Clarizio getting courted by Alabama and three-star cornerback Ayden West being pursued by Ohio State. These guys are better than their recruiting rankings indicate but the staff needs to prove itself on the field and in the NFL draft if it wants to keep guys like this.
White helped lead St. Mary’s to the Division 2 state title game this past season and he was the team’s leading tackler. He was a high three-star before and now 247Sports has him listed with a 90 rating as a four-star, ranked the No. 37 linebacker in the entire 2025 class. He’s also the No. 7 recruit in the state of Michigan.
With the bump to four-star status, White is now Michigan State’s second-highest-ranked 2025 commit behind only Derrick Simmons who was also bumped up to four-star status recently.
A glimmer of hope on an otherwise gloomy day of Michigan State football news.
