Michigan State football has lost yet another key player for the remainder of the season as Gavin Broscious is out.
We’re only three weeks into the Michigan State football season and it feels like we’re in early November with all of the injuries piling up.
The Spartans were relatively healthy all fall camp long and Jonathan Smith entered the 2024 season at full strength with his team, but things have taken quite the turn over the first few weeks.

In fact, Michigan State lost some key players in the opener such as Dillon Tatum, Khalil Majeed, and Alante Brown and all three could miss the remainder of the season — Brown may return. And then Kristian Phillips and a few others went down against Maryland and he, too, is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season. Chance Rucker went down, too, and could miss 6-8 weeks.
Well, the Spartans saw another key player go down with a major injury during Saturday’s Week 3 matchup against Prairie View A&M as Gavin Broscious was on the field in pain and when the cart came out, you knew it was bad immediately.
On Monday, Smith shared that Broscious is likely to miss the rest of the season with that leg injury.
While it may not have been surprising news considering that was the assumption when he was carted off the field on Saturday, it doesn’t hurt any less to hear that another player is out for the year. He now joins Phillips as the second right guard to suffer a season-ending leg injury.
The offensive line is already fairly thin, so Michigan State needs to find an adequate replacement this week at practice. There are probably going to be some young guys filling in throughout the year as losing two guards really impacts that interior depth.
Another tough blow for Michigan State football, especially with the offensive line struggling with consistency.
