After a strong weekend, Michigan State football picked up commitments from a couple of three-star offensive linemen.
The last official visit weekend of the month has come to an end and the July dead period is approaching quickly. Michigan State football received some good news on Saturday when four-star running back Anthony Carrie committed to the Spartans. It looks like the string of good news will continue as the Spartans picked up two additional recruits for the 2024 class.
The Luniewski twins, Mercer and Charlton, announced on Monday that they would be committing to Mel Tucker and the Spartans. The offensive line duo from Ohio both list as three-star recruits and are going to be a big (pun intended) boost to the offensive line.
Mercer is a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle. Charlton slots in as a 6-foot-5 offensive guard. The duo hails from Cincinnati. Mercer held offers from 25 schools and Charlton had 17. The Spartans beat out Cincinnati as the main opposition in this recruiting battle.
The pair have been heavily recruited by the Spartans for some time now they have also cited the opportunity to play together at the next level to be one of the biggest selling points in a school for them.
In an interview with 247Sports, they cited msu as being one of the first schools to recruit them as a pair. This was the beginning of building a great relationship with Tucker and the staff.
The idea of playing together in college was something the twins valued but were not sure was going to happen. Mercer is a little higher on the rankings than Charlton and initially, some schools did not offer both brothers. MSU offering both and showing the love they did was “one of a kind” according to Mercer and ultimately was what built their initial interest in the Spartans.
That relationship-building paid off as the twins now become the Nos. 8 and 9 recruits of Michigan State’s 2024 class. The twins make it four commitments on the offensive line for Chris Kapilovic and Tucker.
Establishing the run game and protecting the quarterback are top priorities for the offense moving forward. Landing these big bodies up front will help that.
Early rumblings are that visits went extremely well this past weekend so, hopefully, more commitments are on the horizon. Big-time MSU secondary target Justin Denson is set to announce his commitment on July 1 and priority wide receiver Nick Marsh is set to announce on July 7. Both were on campus this weekend with the Luniewski twins and Marsh even competed at an Under Amour camp with the twins earlier this year.
Hopefully the connections also will lead to a possible reconnection in East Lansing in 2024.
