Michigan State football will be getting an important official visit from Pitt defensive line commit Francis Brewu.

Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith continues to ride the hot hand on the recruiting trail with the reporting of a highly touted defensive line recruit locking in an official visit to East Lansing for this weekend.

Smith and the Spartan received a commitment from the No. 1 quarterback in the transfer portal on Thursday in Oregon State’s Aidan Chiles. On Friday, they follow it up with scheduling an official visit with top defensive line target and current Pitt commit Francis Brewu.

If you’ve been following MSU football’s recruiting over the past 3-6 months, you may already know that the previous staff had been working hard to flip the 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive lineman. It has been rumored that there was mutual interest between both parties however its speculated the communication paused since the in-season coaching changes for the Spartans.

Brewu is from Columbus, Ohio, and Smith has made it clear he will be recruiting the Great Lakes region harder than the previous staff. Ohio mostly went untouched in the last couple years and its exciting to see Michigan State recruit the area again. The Ohio pipeline has always been great to MSU for picking up recruits that have been overlooked by Ohio State and playing with a chip on their shoulder.

Brewu holds offers from Miami, Wisconsin, and Pitt among others.

This would be an awesome pickup for the new staff especially in the limited amount of time they’ve had. If Brewu chose the Spartans, he would be the first defensive lineman committed for the 2024 class. This is an absolutely critical target.
