Michigan State football re-offers in state 4-star TE Dylan Mesman

After the previous staff missed out on him, Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football re-offered Dylan Mesman.

We aren’t even a full week into the Jonathan Smith regime with Michigan State football and the recruiting trail has been hot. Part of that is because the dead period ends Dec. 1 and the transfer portal officially opens on Dec. 4 but Smith’s staff has been getting after it in order to flip the roster before early national signing day. I’m loving everything that I’m seeing right now.

On Thursday night, Michigan State re-offered in-state four-star tight end Dylan Mesman from Saline, Mich. This was always a weird recruitment to me under former head coach Mel Tucker. Mesman is an MSU legacy – both parents were Spartans and it appeared he wanted to follow that path. For some reason, however, Tucker didn’t pursue all that hard and Mesman verbally committed to Louisville back in April.

Mesman is a four-star tight end according to the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-5 tight end holds offers from Auburn, Miami, and Ole Miss, among others. Stop me if you’ve heard this before but Mesman is also a high school basketball player with a very athletic background.

Getting Mesman to flip before early signing day is going to be tough especially with Louisville playing in the ACC championship game in their first year under head coach Jeff Brohm. The goal should be to delay Mesman’s signing and get him on campus for an official visit.

This would be a huge win for Jonathan Smith and Co.

The only box Smith did not check as a candidate for the Michigan State football coaching job was his lack of Midwest ties. He has the opportunity to prove the haters wrong with a quick in-state recruiting win.
