Michigan State football has made the final cut for four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims before his decision.
The defense has been the identity of the most successful Michigan State football teams. Mel Tucker and the rest of the staff look to keep it that way with their efforts on the recruiting trail.
Xadavien Sims is a four-star defensive end from Durant, Okla. According to 247Sports, Sims is the best prospect in the state of Oklahoma and he’s ranked 116th nationally in the 2024 class. Not too bad.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound wrecking ball announced on Twitter earlier this afternoon that he had trimmed his list to five schools. Michigan State was included along with Oregon, Vanderbilt, TCU, and Oklahoma.
Sims also announced his future commitment date of May 20, which is just 10 days away.
The Oklahoma native would be a massive pickup for Tucker and the Spartans. The pass rushing was something lacking for most of MSU’s 2022 season. Sims would change that.
Where does Michigan State stand?
While there is still time for things to change, currently most experts predict Sims to be a Spartan. The 247Sports director of football recruiting, Steve Wiltfong, currently has a crystal ball submitted for the Spartans. Wiltfong placed his prediction with a score of “6” on the confidence rating, or “medium.”
Michigan State recruiting experts/insiders Sean Scherer, Justin Thind, and Corey Robinson all placed similar crystal balls in favor of the Spartans. However, it is worth noting that all of these predictions were placed on November 13, 2022. A lot can change in months and these crystal ball forecasts will be something worth watching as Sims winds down his recruitment.
Sims has not taken an official visit with the Spartans. He did take an unofficial visit on March 14 of this year. Out of the schools that Sims listed in his top five, MSU has had the most recent visit.
The defensive lineman had an official visit planned to TCU on June 16. That visit will now most likely not take place if Sims announces his decision according to schedule. Something worth noting.
The addition of Sims to the 2024 class would be huge. He would be the fifth overall commit and the third four-star prospect. According to 247Sports’ “class calculator” tool, the addition would jump MSU from 41st in the 2024 overall class rankings to 33rd.
Xadavien Sims could be a monster addition and this is a recruitment worth watching.
