Michigan State football will don brand-new uniform combo vs. Purdue

For the third time this season, Michigan State football will be playing on Friday night and for the first time, it’ll be featuring a new uniform combination that we haven’t seen together yet.

The MSU football X account shared its threads for Friday night’s game against Purdue and they were surprising.

Obviously you expect something like the all-green look or green jerseys and white pants or some sort of combination like that, but it looks like the players and coaches are looking for a fresh start and that’s what this combo provides. For the first time ever, Michigan State will wear its green jersey, with black pants, and the black Thy Shadows helmet.

This is the first time fans will see this look after witnessing a plethora of new combinations over the years, starting with the all-white look with the white helmet that Brian Lewerke and Co. made famous back in 2017. We’ve also seen the neon pants era with the ugly “State” across the chest in neon green on the jerseys — those were, um, something. We’ve also seen a number of helmets from Gruff to the M.A.C. logo to the block ‘S’ to Sparty holding an American flag. And the new jerseys revealed in 2023 were also a fresh new look.

It’s rare that we get a brand-new uniform combination because it feels like we’ve seen it all, but Jonathan Smith and his players must have voted on this one because it honestly looks pretty crisp.

The green is dark enough with the black pants that it all kind of flows, in a way, and the black helmet is a nice touch. It’s one way to incorporate the black uniforms as many fans feel as if they might be cursed after a 49-0 loss to Michigan in them last year and 47-10 defeat against Indiana in them this year.
