Michigan State hockey to play outdoor game at Wrigley Field this winter

Michigan State hockey is one of eight teams playing in a series of games this January as the Spartans will partake in a Wrigley Field game.

With summer winding down and football season approaching, Spartan fans are gearing up for what’s expected to be an exciting fall sports season. Obviously, football and basketball will be highly anticipated but I am most excited about Michigan State hockey season starting. The Spartan hockey team will look to defend its Big Ten title and potentially make another Frozen Four.

To help further the excitement regarding Spartan hockey, a special announcement was released today that Spartan fans should be excited about.

On Thursday, the Big Ten, in partnership with the Chicago Cubs, announced plans to host two hockey doubleheaders to take place this upcoming January at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The games are a few days after the NHL hosts its Winter Classic at Wrigley on Dec. 31. The series is being called “The Frozen Confines at Wrigley”.

It will feature the Spartans playing Saturday against the Wisconsin Badgers.

The series will total four games. Two taking place on Friday, Jan. 3, and two on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Friday games will feature Michigan taking on Ohio State and then Penn State taking on Notre Dame. Saturday will also see the Wisconsin Lady Badgers take on the women from Ohio State in a rematch of last season’s women’s Big Ten title game.

Friday games are currently slated for 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CST. Saturday games are slotted currently at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. CST as well. Tickets are expected to go on sale for The Frozen Confines soon. General public tickets can be purchased at cubs.com/BigTenHockey and will go on sale on Aug. 30.
