Michigan State women’s soccer is trending in the right direction and it signed the best recruiting class in program history.
Michigan State women’s soccer has been one of the more exciting teams in East Lansing in recent years. They struggled for many years to find any success on the field, but that changed as soon as the Spartans hired current head coach Jeff Hosler.
Hosler has been the head coach for three seasons, and those three seasons have been the best in program history. His first season saw MSU finish fourth in the Big Ten after they were predicted to finish 13th.
His second season as head coach is when the Spartans became known around the country. He led the Spartans in 2022 to a 17-3-3 overall record and a 9-0-1 Big Ten record. They also captured the Spartan’s first Big Ten title in program history.
Last season saw much of the same as Michigan State won the Big Ten for the second season in a row and made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans lost to 1-seed BYU, but this was a remarkable season nonetheless.
With Michigan State women’s soccer at an all-time high, the Spartans are now finding success in recruiting as well.
Highest ranked recruiting class in program history
Finding recruiting success is no surprise after winning two straight conference titles, and that’s exactly what Michigan State is doing. The Spartans just signed the No. 13 recruiting class in the country, which is the best in program history.
The Spartans’ 2024 class consists of 10 players with four ranked in the top 160 of their class. This also includes three players ranked in the top 70 at Nos. 63, 65, and 69.
All signs point to MSU soccer staying at the top of the Big Ten and part of the national landscape. The Spartans have a few exhibition games coming up this spring before the race for a third straight Big Ten title begins this fall.
