NFL analyst says Ben Vansumeren will definitely get drafted

NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes that Michigan State linebacker Ben VanSumeren is “very much going to get drafted.”

Ben VanSumeren had a rollercoaster of a college career. He spent his first three years in college as a fullback at Michigan. Then after his sophomore season, he transferred both schools and positions. VanSumeren drove 60 miles to East Lansing to finish his college career and switched to linebacker.

Both of those decisions paid off for VanSumeren as he racked up 81 total tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss this past season. He also added on two pass breakups as well.
VanSumeren believed that was good enough for the NFL so he decided to enter the draft. His draft stock wasn’t exactly through the roof, but he felt ready.

However, things weren’t looking great for his aspirations of getting drafted. VanSumeren was not invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl and did not receive an invite to the NFL Combine.

All of that changed at his Michigan State Pro Day. He had a legendary performance.

VanSumeren boasted a vertical leap four inches higher than any other linebacker at the combine at 42.5 inches. He also ran a 4.40 40-yard dash. That speed would’ve been second amongst linebackers at the NFL Combine. He also tied for first with 29 reps on 225 pounds bench press and took first with his broad jump. 

“He’s very much going to get drafted,” NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah said. “He had an unbelievable, kind of all-time pro day.”

Sometimes all it takes is a big pro day to wow scouts and build draft stock and VanSumeren is seeing that play out currently. His career in East Lansing was up-and-down, but it looks like he’ll soon be playing on Sundays.

The NFL draft is in less than a week and it looks like VanSumeren will be getting his name called.
