One of my favorite things to do throughout the season, especially when Michigan State isn’t playing well, is to follow former Spartans to see how they’re doing at their new schools. One of the most prominent former players who was highly sought after in the transfer portal last offseason was none other than Simeon Barrow.

The former star defensive lineman drew a ton of interest in the transfer portal and decided to play for Mario Cristobal down at Miami where he was likely rewarded with a heck of an NIL deal.

Barrow’s lone season with Miami wasn’t all that bad. He finished the regular season with 28 total tackles and a career-high 5.5 sacks. He didn’t quite have the tackle numbers he did at Michigan State, but he got into the backfield often and wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

While he nearly helped lead Miami to the College Football Playoff, the Hurricanes still went 10-2 and made the Pop-Tarts Bowl as a top 20 team in the nation.

Defense was optional in this year’s Pop-Tarts Bowl between Miami and Iowa State and that seemed to lead to some frustrations on the Hurricanes’ sideline between Barrow and a teammate.

The former Spartan overheard his defensive line-mate Marquise Lightfoot saying something that seemed to set him off on the sideline so he took exception, got in the freshman’s face, and shoved him. Lightfoot responded with a thrown punch that didn’t connect, but it was still a horrible look.

Watch the whole thing unfold here:

Again, this wasn’t a great look for the former Spartan because he needs to keep his cool better than this, especially with a freshman. He’s supposed to be a leader and a mentor for younger teammates, but this was a bad example of that.

Let’s hope they figured things out at halftime because no one wants to see teammate-on-teammate violence.
