History shows that Jayden Reed will have a long, successful NFL career

If history truly repeats itself, former Michigan State receiver Jayden Reed is going to have a long, successful NFL career.

Jayden Reed became the first Michigan State receiver to go in the second round or earlier since Devin Thomas went No. 34 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.

The Green Bay Packers chose Reed No. 50 overall last week and there are already high hopes for the former Spartan wideout. He’s actually already projected as a starter for Green Bay in 2023 alongside 2022 second-round pick Christian Watson.

And if Green Bay history repeats itself, Reed is going to have a long, successful NFL career.

A graphic was posted on Twitter earlier this week proving that the Packers have struck gold in the second round in terms of drafting receivers since 2006.

Just take a look at how these second-round receivers have fared throughout their NFL careers:

• Greg Jennings: 571 catches for 8,291 yards and 64 touchdowns over 10 years
• Jordy Nelson: 613 catches for 8,587 yards and 72 touchdowns over 10 years
• Randall Cobb: 625 catches for 7,585 yards and 53 touchdowns over 12 years
• Davante Adams: 769 catches for 9,637 yards and 87 touchdowns over 9 years
• Christian Watson: 41 catches for 611 yards and 7 touchdowns as a rookie

What great company for Reed to be in. If history repeats itself, he’s going to have at least a decade-long NFL career and approach 10,000 career receiving yards with over 50 touchdowns.

Jennings, Nelson, and Cobb are all Packer legends and Adams is that as well as a future Hall of Famer and arguably a top-three receiver in the NFL right now. Watson was one of the best rookies in the NFL last year and really broke out in the second half of the season as Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target.

Reed now joins an exclusive club and if the trend continues, he’s going to be a fan favorite in Green Bay for years.

This is a bittersweet development for us Lions fans.
