Former Michigan State cornerback Josh Butler has finally gotten another chance at pro football with the Michigan Panthers.
Josh Butler was a fan favorite in East Lansing. During his days as a Michigan State cornerback, he quickly won fans over because of his story of losing both of his parents while he was in college within 18 months of each other and he still managed to graduate and walk on Senior Day with his best friends (his dogs, Roxy and Remi).
It was really cool to see his growth throughout his time as a Spartan defensive back. He played in 35 career games at Michigan State, recording 52 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and 11 pass breakups.
Although he didn’t get drafted, it just felt like he had what it took to make a practice squad or even a push at a pro career in the NFL. That just never happened.
On his social media, mainly his TikTok, he spoke about how he wanted to play professional football and he was working to get back to that level. Well, in late March, he signed with the Michigan Panthers and returned back to Michigan where he played his college ball.
And on April 16, he played in his first career game with the USFL’s Panthers as they beat Houston 29-13 to improve to 1-0 on the season.
According to his stats on FOX Sports, he finished the game with four total tackles, including this highlight:
Every Michigan State fan will be rooting for Butler to succeed with the Panthers and hopefully he can become a star in the USFL and maybe even get another shot at the NFL.
Butler is an easy dude to root for and it was awesome to see him getting signed by the Panthers and coming back to his second home to play football. If you’re ever around, go check out a Michigan Panthers game and show some support for Josh Butler.
