Michigan State football legend Le’Veon Bell is excited about the Spartans in the NCAA Tournament and he said he’s coming to the next game.
A common trend that’s been happening recently is former Spartans coming back to support the current Michigan State teams. Keon Coleman was just at the Breslin Center on senior night and Rocky Lombardi came back to throw for his former teammates pro day in East Lansing.
Now it’s time we add another former Spartan to the list, this one however is quite different from the others.
After Michigan State beat Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, former Spartan running back Le’Veon Bell posted on X that he would be at the next game.
It wasn’t that shocking when Coleman and Lombardi came to MSU because they were there supporting their former teammates. However, Bell hasn’t been in college since 2012, so this is him just supporting the university he loves.
Le’Veon was a standout running back for MSU from 2010-1012. During his final season, he ran for nearly 1,800 yards and 12 touchdowns. This includes one of the most iconic plays in MSU history when he hurdled a Boise State player in Spartan Stadium.
Bell was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he spent the bulk of his NFL career. He also had stints with the Jets, Chiefs, Ravens, and Buccaneers.
In my opinion, this visit is significant because Le’Veon really hasn’t been around MSU much since he left for the NFL. He’s been to a few football games, but even that is few and far between. But for him to come to an NCAA tournament basketball game to support the Spartans shows once again just how great of a culture we have in East Lansing. It’s not often you see athletes from other sports supporting current college teams, but that’s the norm here at MSU.
Let’s hope the Spartans can get the win in front of Bell. It won’t be easy, but I have faith that Michigan State can get the win over North Carolina on Saturday.
