Michigan State basketball: Coen Carr skyrockets up Rivals rankings

A certain Michigan State basketball signee has skyrocketed in the latest Rivals recruiting rankings on Wednesday afternoon.

For all of you who bought stock in Coen Carr early on, it’s starting to officially pay off. The Michigan State basketball signee is finally getting the national recognition he deserves and looks like one of the best prospects in the 2023 class.

Fans are excited about Carr’s arrival this upcoming season, and they should be.

Carr is considered one of the best athletes in the entire class and you could probably watch two seconds of his highlights on YouTube to realize he can jump out of the gym. He has one of the most electrifying highlight reels you’ll ever see.

But prior to this week, he wasn’t even a top-50 prospect on the 247Sports Composite. Although 247Sports, ESPN, and On3 were all high on the forward from South Carolina, Rivals seemed to be holding things up. In fact, Rivals had him listed as the No. 94 prospect in the class.

Insane.

That all changed on Wednesday with the site releasing its final updated Rivals150.

Carr made one of the biggest jumps of anyone, launching all the way to No. 32 in the class, just 12 spots away from joining Xavier Booker as a five-star.

This move up the rankings seemed warranted after the year that Carr has had. He’s exploded onto the scene nationally with an impressive 3-on-3 showing last summer as well as a big senior season and subsequent slam dunk title.

I called Rivals out not too long ago about holding Carr up from borderline five-star status and with the new update, he’s currently on that verge, sitting at No. 34 overall on the 247Sports Composite. He’s just seven spots away from being a composite five-star and he’s jumped 47 spots in that ranking since May of 2022.

We all knew Carr was an elite player and now all the recruiting services agree.
