The newest Michigan State basketball recruit just got a heck of an endorsement after picking the Spartans.
Cam Ward, a member of Team Durant in the AAU circuit, committed to Michigan State on Tuesday over Kansas State and Maryland and he received the endorsement of his team’s namesake.
That’s right, Kevin Durant called Ward a “PG county dog” when he posted the commitment on his Instagram story.
If you’re wondering what that means, it’s a reference to the county in which Ward lives, Prince George’s County in Maryland. That county borders Washington, D.C., which is where Durant was born and grew up. They have a commonality there and that’s living in the DMV.
It’s cool to see one of the best players in the world endorse Michigan State’s newest commit. There have been a lot of connection with Durant and Michigan State lately with Mat Ishbia owning the Phoenix Suns and them coming to the Breslin Center for an exhibition game. Also, his teammate, Devin Booker, is from Michigan and spoke about being a fan of the Spartans growing up (still salty about that).
Ward getting praise from Durant makes sense, though. He plays for Team Durant and is from the DMV so it’s fair for Durant to show him love. It also helps his AAU team’s image with one of his players earning a major Division I opportunity.
The four-star forward from Upper Marlbro, Md., is ranked the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2025 class and he joins No. 52 overall recruit Jordan Scott as the other Spartan pledge. The class has gone from zero commits a couple of weeks ago to No. 20 in the country — and it’s not done yet.
Some big-time recruits still remain on the big board despite missing on Dwayne Aristode, Darius Adams, Trey McKenney, Jalen Haralson, and Trent Sisley. This class could still be special — just ask Kevin Durant.
